Eugenics enthusiast Michael Schiavo is back in the spotlight again, after lurking in the memory hole of the Left for a while. (Hat tip: Michelle Malkin.)
While it would be easy to thank Kos for again revealing the Liberal proclivity toward human death and cultural desruction and to leave it at that, I would like to delve further into the mental illness that is liberalism, using Schiavo's entry as merely the most blatant example.
Walking down the primrose path of history in the rearview mirror as tainted by MSM misinformation, one is tempted to remember the Killing of Terri as a matter of Terri's choosing. In fact, judging by the bimbo comments at Kos, the Libs, defenders of THE LITTLE GUY, have willingly forgotten who the little guy was. "God bless you, Michael." "You have had amazing strength." Blah, blah, blah. This kind of language is usually the kind of language reserved for those who have just lost a child due to a birth defect/childhood illness.
It kind of makes one forget that this Michael Schiavo is the pious leftist who starved his wife to death over a course of a few weeks, telling everyone that she "would have wanted" to be starved to death. Looking back at the issue, I remember a couple pertinent points:
- There were allegations that Terri was abused.
- Her family offered to take care of her. The offer was declined.
- Terri wasn't on "life support." She had a feeding tube.
- She wasn't removed from life support. She was starved/dehydrated to death.
- It wasn't just "Right Wing Kooks" who supported her parents in seeking to protect her.
- The judge was suspected of conflict of interest in the case. (Cheney is to Halliburton as the judge was to the facility's legal staff.)
- She was worth starving because she couldn't feed herself.
Ah, yes. The key ingredients of a Hero of the Revolution celebrated Leftist cause. It isn't every day that all the Saintly Leninist Inquisitors can send a defenseless person to the ideological stake over trumped up/irrational "concerns." If civil rights and humane treatment are brought up, just beat the "Separation of Church and Big Brother" drums, and no one will care about the victim(s) anymore. (It begs noting that the Left doesn't have causes, it has bitches, whines and concerns. Note the analagous Save Darfur rally...a decade late, with no coherent plan to save anything.)
On Darfur, the Left chose the easiest alternative, willful ignorance, waiting for the conflict to end on its own, which it did, after the Muslim government declared an end to hostilities due to lack of any more Christian targets to kill/maim/rape. Finally, twelve years after the civil war began, the end came, and it was just a few months later that the "Save Darfur" Rally (Starring George Clooney, among others) appeared. Way too little, much too late...just in time to look like you deserve credit for a resolution that never really happened. Typical leftists.
A similar scenario took place in Terri's case. Terri had been in Michael's crosshairs for years. After having prevented any rehab, verdict shopping, and ignoring Terri's family's wishes, Michael finally found a judge who would help kill his wife, proof that diligence does pay off. The judge had ties to the facility that Terri was residing in, and seemed to see it Mr. Schiavo's way. Not only that, but the judge made sure to prevent any appeals, keeping human rights concerns in check.
A willing media lied to us, telling us that it was bulemia, not abuse, that had killed Mrs. Schiavo. They told us that she was an unworthy vegetable, living on life support, unworthy of our pity because she couldn't protect herself. In fact she was so unworthy, that she deserved to die from starvation and dehydration, a "death with dignity." Echoing the words of the Roman soldiers on Golgotha, talking heads and purchased expertise asked, "Is she worth keeping alive if she can't feed herself?"
Michael Schiavo needs God's blessing, as do we all. I need forgiveness for sins I have committed, and he needs forgiveness for murdering his wife and opening the pandora's box of involuntary euthanasia. Killing the defenseless because you can is not the act of the hero, it is the act of a monster. Defending and lauding that killer is not the act of an advanced society, it is the act of a mob in the coliseum, gorged on free bread, commuting between the circus and the vomitorium.
Michael Schiavo is the perfect poster child of this Brave New Deal: a man who cannot see past his own moment in the spotlight, who cannot protect the defenseless, who cannot make a rational case for his emotional decisions, and who is cannonized by the NeoMarxists.
Thinking about Terri and Darfur in summation, one learns a few things about the world in general: Pretty women shouldn't marry abusive liberal men, and people who are being persecuted will only be remembered when they lie in mass graves. Liberals may sell you out, but they will act like martyrs all the way to the bank.
